Hurricane Matthew wrecked havoc on the Lowcountry and Hunting Island in particular lost thousands of trees. I arrived after Matthew and never saw the ‘before’ landscape of the island. I wanted to make a picture that told a story about the power of hurricanes and also one that illustrated the resilience of the natural world. This view, looking out across the lagoon toward the Atlantic ocean shows the trees that were able to stand up to the wind and survived. I made a faded double image and reversed it on the horizontal to remember the trees that were lost.
